Chief Financial Officer


Ontela is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. Our CFO will take on all things finance and operations in Ontela, whipping up budgets faster than a speeding bullet, watching our cash with an eagle eye, orchestrating heroic fundraising, and writing checks with (some) abandon, not to mention managing our facilities. To pull this off effectively you’ll need to be able to talk to and work closely with budget owners, understand our business, and strategically plot the course of the finance organization. You’ll report to our CEO (recognized as mobile’s best CEO by VentureBeat) and work hand-in-hand with the executive team. You will be the point person for all critical financial activities including fundraising, day to day operations, and board accountability.

Ontela provides wireless carriers with a service that makes it ridiculously easy to get pictures off of camera phones. We’re fast-paced, product-focused, and team-based. WHAT YOU AND YOUR TEAM WILL DO

Some examples:

  • Accounting. Your team will run all things accounting, such as closing the books, maintaining integrity of accounting systems and data, setting policy (including revenue recognition) and ensuring that GAAP is followed

  • Revenue forecasting. Your team will work with the CEO, Sales, and Marketing teams to understand current and forthcoming products to set revenue forecasts

  • Financial reporting. Your team will develop, improve, issue, and present timely monthly financial records for internal, board, and investor consumption

  • Planning & budgeting. Your team will work closely with CEO and budget owners to provide financial guidance and to budget and ensure resources are used in the most effective and efficient manner, while also assuring that financial plans are consistent with organizational goals

  • Cash management, including payroll, payables, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, etc.

  • Controls. Your team will safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments

  • Banking and credit. Your team will manage day-to-day commercial banking relationships and ensure that Ontela continues and improves its good credit rating

  • Legal. Your team will manage relationships with outside legal counsel for corporate, financial, transactional, HR, etc. work.

  • Audit. Your team will be the key interface with outside audit firms(s).

  • Relationships. Your team will liaison with casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and collection agencies

  • Fundraising. You will work with the CEO to orchestrate fundraising.

  • Operations and Facilities. Your team will run and maintain the Ontela facilities and operations.

  • Organization. Your team will plot the course of the finance organization to ensure it keeps pace with our overall business needs.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL EXHIBIT THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES

  • C-level financial leadership that helps the executive team grow and excel in their business responsibilities

  • Deep experience and high credibility internally and externally

  • Veritable math and Excel genius; able to calculate figures and amounts for all bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, statistical analysis, probability statements, and spontaneous “what if” queries

  • Extreme discretion

  • Ability to build, nurture, and lead a world-class team, with both full and part time resources, including hiring, firing, mentoring, training, applying feedback up and down the management chain, balancing egos, providing a career path for employees, and generally making a great team even better

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA); Master’s preferred

  • 5+ years professional accounting experience or equivalent

  • 10+ years experience in an executive finance role at a startup

  • CPA or CMA license is preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of Quickbooks, Excel, Powerpoint, Word
